Since I'm one of those people who believe, however mistakenly, that the speed limit is the UPPER limit on how fast you can drive, and not the lower, I patiently drive along behind them.

well, let's see. if they're going well below the speed limit, and it's a road that I can pass them on, I will pass them.

If they're doing the speed limit (around here on some of the country roads, the speed limit drops to 15mph), and it's not a road I can pass them on, I stay behind them. No riding their bumper or laying on the horn. Especially as they could be going that slow for a reason. There could be something wrong with their car. They might be a new driver. They might be lost and looking for the right house number or road.

... but an extreme VARIETY of speed can be very VERY dangerous.

The highway I use every day to get to and from work was recently bumped from 55mph to 65mph. It's heavily policed so they WILL give you a ticket if you go over 70. So 90% of the people are cruising along at 67 or so.

Then you come up (quickly) on some moronic, turtle-brained illiterate going FIFTY. He still thinks he's within 5 miles an hour of the speedlimit (even though the signs CLEARLY say 65)... so now he's 15mph under the speedlimit and almost 20 below the flow of traffic.

You struggle to change lanes, there's people merging (at 65) jamming on their brakes because of turtle man.... [img]mad.gif[/img]

Makes me want to replace the headlight washers with twin paintball guns. If you see some retard with paintball splatters on the ass of his car, change lanes before you get anywhere near, or you'll be on your brakes and stuck behind him while fighting to merge into another lane.
